The Plight of Christians in Mosul

John 16:2. ‘Yes, the time is coming that whoever kills you will think that he offers God service. Romans 8:36-37. ‘As it is written, “For Your sake we are killed all the day long; we are accounted as sheep for the slaughter.” Yet in all these things we are more than conquerors through Him who loved us.’ Many readers will perhaps have heard that the Islamic terrorists in Iraq who go by the name of ISIS have given Christians in the town of Mosul just a few hours either to convert to Islam, pay Protection Tax or face extermination. The allotted time expired around lunchtime today (July 19th). Many hundreds of Christians have fled Mosul and are now refugees in their own lands where Christians have dwelt since long before the birth of Mohammed. In the light of this, there are three things which Christians in the West need to be doing: 1. We need to be praying for these poor destitute brothers and sisters that God will have His hand upon them for good. It is not the first time that Christians have been forced to flee their homes because of persecution, and God is able to use even the most wicked acts of men for His glory (Acts 8:1; 11:19-21). 2. We need to be writing to the Government to ask it to supply food and shelter to the refugees, to bring the matter before the U.N. and NATO and to seek a way to bring down this evil organization. British readers should contact their own Member of Parliament and also write to the Foreign Secretary:- The Rt Hon Philip Hammond MP Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs Foreign and Commonwealth Office King Charles Street London SW1A 2AH 3. We need to be giving aid to help persecuted Christians. Barnabus Fund, Open Doors and Release International are three organizations that supply aid to persecuted Christians. The web-sites are easy to find by an internet search. We cannot sit on our hands and wait for the secular world to do something; let us be about raising money and getting it where it’s needed. Finally, let no one imagine that these ISIS thugs are acting outside of the instructions of their holy book as some are suggesting. ‘Fight against such of those who have been given the Scripture as believe not in Allah or the Last Day and forbid not that which Allah has forbidden by his messenger and follow not the religion of truth, until they pay the tribute willingly, being brought low’ (Qur’an: Surah 9:29).

  1. The situation has become worse since yesterday as this account tells:-

There is a genocide in the making here, and it’s hardly making the news.

God had only one Son without sin, none without Sorrow, D L Moody wrote.

There will probably be no mention of this in the press, but y’all need to be aware of it – especially Christians!

  4. There is an on-line petition which readers can sign, calling on the United Nations and the Arab League do take action to protect the Iraqi Christians.

It seems that such petitions have an effect, so please sign.

  5. Sadly ISIS attracts young naive and mis-informed folks.
