Concert of Prayer (2)

As posted elsewhere, my church held a Concert of Prayer meeting last Saturday, July 14th.  Although we had invited several other churches to participate with us, there were only two people from outside our congregation.  What is the matter with people?  Are the times not serious enough yet?

Nonetheless, we prayed without ceasing for around two hours, and although the prayers were those of repentance and humility, we felt blessed, for we believe that God was present through His Spirit and that He has heard us.  It was encouraging to know that many other brothers and sisters were praying with us all around the country.

I understand that the next date for the Concert is October 6th.  If you don’t know of a meeting in your area, why not hold your own?  ‘Thus says the LORD GOD: “I will also let the house of Israel inquire of Me to do this for them:  I will increase their men like a flock.  Like a flock ofered as holy sacrifices at Jerusalem on feast days, so shall the ruined cities be filled with flocks of men.  Then they shall know the I am the LORD”‘ (Ezek 36:37-8).

Here are two articles on the concept and practice of a Concer of Prayer which readers may find useful.

  1. Steve…this is lovely! How can I get my church involved?

  2. Well, Steve, I think you have difficulty if you are still living in New Jersey. You are more than welcome to pray with us for the UK on October 6th and I’m sure God can hear your prayers quite well from across the Atlantic.

If you want to organize something similar for prayer for the USA, I suggest that you write to some Christian magazines and influential blogs and see if you can get something started.

  3. This is to confirm that the next Concert of Prayer Meetings will be on Saturday, January 5th between 10am and 12 noon.

The only venues of which I am certain are the ones in Devon: Newhouse Baptist Church, Smeatharpe, near Honiton and Scott Drive Church, Exmouth.
